⚡ Know Before You Travel
Simple tips to help you enjoy a comfortable and hassle-free journey
- Book tickets for Red Fort and Humayun's Tomb online via the ASI website - long queues form at the gate, especially on weekends.
- Use the Delhi Metro for inter-city travel - it's fast, air-conditioned, and covers all major tourist spots. Buy a tourist card for unlimited rides.
- Chandni Chowk is best explored in the early morning before the crowds arrive. Avoid taking private vehicles into the narrow lanes.
- Carry hand sanitiser and stay hydrated - summers (Apr-Jun) are extremely hot with temperatures reaching 45°C. Light cotton clothes are essential.
- Most monuments are closed on Mondays - plan sightseeing accordingly.
- Air quality can vary - keep a mask handy, especially during winter months (Oct-Jan).
- Arrive at the Taj Mahal at sunrise for the best light, fewest crowds, and iconic golden-hour photographs. The gates open at 6:00 AM.
- Book Taj Mahal tickets online in advance - entry is limited and tickets sell out on peak days. The monument is closed on Fridays.
- Wear shoe covers (provided at the entrance) or socks while walking on the marble platform - footwear is not permitted near the main mausoleum.
- Mehtab Bagh across the Yamuna offers a stunning rear-view of the Taj - ideal for sunset photography without the main gate crowds.
- Fatehpur Sikri (40 km from Agra) is best visited as a day trip - go in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat.
- Beware of touts near monument entrances - always use official guides or pre-booked tour operators.
- Amber Fort is best visited in the morning - elephant rides are available but book ahead as slots fill quickly. The fort is a steep uphill walk otherwise.
- Hawa Mahal's iconic façade faces east - visit in the morning for front-lit photos. Entry from the rear; the inner chambers are also worth exploring.
- A composite ticket covers City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, and more - good value if you plan to visit multiple sites in a day.
- Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar are perfect for gems, textiles, and handicrafts - bargaining is expected and welcome.
- Try a traditional Rajasthani thali (dal baati churma, ghevar) at a local restaurant - a must-have culinary experience in the Pink City.
- Nahargarh Fort at dusk offers a panoramic view of the entire city - carry a light jacket as evenings can be breezy, especially in winter.
- The Delhi-Agra-Jaipur triangle is well-connected by trains and highways - book Shatabdi or Gatimaan Express tickets on IRCTC well in advance.
- UPI and cards work in most hotels and restaurants, but carry cash for local markets, auto-rickshaws, and roadside stalls.
- Summers (Apr-Jun) are intense - best travel season is October to March for pleasant weather across all three cities.
- Dress modestly when visiting mosques, temples, and forts - covered shoulders and legs are expected. Remove footwear at religious sites.
- Drink only bottled or filtered water throughout the trip. Stick to freshly cooked food at reputed places to avoid stomach issues.
