⚡ Know Before You Travel

Simple tips to help you enjoy a comfortable and hassle-free journey

  • Carry warm clothing - temperatures can drop significantly at night, especially in winter.
  • Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes for trekking and walking around the lake.
  • Boating at Kodai Lake gets crowded on weekends - go early to avoid queues.
  • Mist can reduce visibility at viewpoints (Coaker's Walk, Pillar Rocks) by late morning - visit early.
  • Roads to Kodaikanal involve sharp hairpin bends - keep motion-sickness remedies handy.

  • Dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees) for Meenakshi Amman Temple entry.
  • Footwear must be removed before entering temple premises - carry a bag to store shoes.
  • Visit early morning or evening to avoid the midday heat and crowds.
  • Cameras/phones may have restrictions inside the temple sanctum - check signage.
  • Try local specialties like Jigarthanda and Madurai-style biryani - best had at popular local eateries rather than tourist spots.
  • Keep cash handy for small shops and street food vendors near the temple area.

  • Roads are scenic but hilly - keep motion-sickness tablets handy, especially for ghat sections to Munnar and Kodaikanal.
  • Keep cash handy in local markets and temple towns; cards/UPI may not work everywhere.
  • Carry sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses for day tours.
  • Respect local culture - modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees) is appreciated at temples and churches.
  • Be mindful of early check-in/late check-out policies at hotels.
  • Stay hydrated, especially in Madurai's warmer plains climate compared to the hill stations.
  • Keep a basic first-aid kit and any personal medications handy for long travel days.
